![]() ![]() Completed law enforcement employment background investigations are then forwarded by the local CID office for review and approval by CMC, Law Enforcement and Corrections Branch (PSL). If found initially suitable, the CID office will conduct a law enforcement employment background investigation on the Marine to determine their suitability to perform law enforcement duties. Marines will start the process by contacting their local CID office who will determine a Marine’s initial suitability for assignment as a criminal investigator by a screening board headed by the Criminal Investigation Officer or Chief Criminal Investigator of the Provost Marshal’s Office. ![]() Successfully pass a law enforcement employment background investigation and be found suitable for duties as a Criminal Investigator. Be worldwide deployable at the time approved for lateral move into the 5821 MOS. Possess or be eligible for a Top-Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information eligibility based on a Single Scope Background Investigation. Army Criminal Investigation Division, Special Agent Course (CIDSAC), U.S. Have sufficient obligated service to serve 48 months after graduating the U.S. Have no convictions by Summary, Special or General courts-martial or civil courts (except minor traffic violations) Non-Judicial Punishment convictions involving illegal drugs, spouse abuse/domestic violence or immoral character (may not be waived). Waivers will not be considered for those Marines determined unsuitable for assignment as a criminal investigator by a medical professional. If previous treatment has been received the health care practitioner will be contacted to determine if the Marine under consideration has a condition that could impair judgment, reliability, or the ability to perform the duties of a CID Agent. Have no history of mental, nervous, or emotional disorders. Have a valid state driver license ( may not be waived). Have a minimum height requirement of 64 inches ( may not be waived). Have normal color vision ( may not be waived). Corporals over one year time in grade may be waived on a case-by-case basis. Be a Sergeant and have less than two years’ time in grade. Any waivers must be approved by CMC (CID HQ). The following are the requirements for lateral move to the 5821 MOS apply. Intellect, flexibility, creativity, and cultural knowledge all contribute to success in this MOS. CID Agents are required to have strong interpersonal skills that enable them to interact with a variety of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. CID Agents investigate misdemeanor and felony level crimes that fall within the jurisdictional purview of the DOD, provide technical guidance and supervision to junior CID Agents and apprentice investigators, conduct covert operations, personal protective services, crisis negotiations, forensic examinations/exploitation, assists the complex trial teams with trial case preparation, provide subject matter expertise and training to host nations during contingency operations and liaise with other military, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.ĬID is a demanding yet rewarding MOS that requires a special breed of Marine who can operate independently and as part of an organized team made up of law enforcement professionals. CID Agents provide criminal investigative support to both supporting establishment law enforcement and deployed/combat contingency operations. CID Agents perform criminal investigative duties while operationally assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Regional Trial Counsel (RTC), Identity Operations Mission, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).
